Custom Blocks Reference
How to Insert a Custom Block
There are two ways to find AWI custom blocks in the editor:
- Hover in the editor where you want to insert a block. Click the + icon, choose Browse All Blocks, and look for the Animal Welfare Institute category at the top.
- Click into a new block area, type /, and start typing the block name (e.g.,
/awi data).
Active Blocks
16 blocks currently registered and available in the editor.
AWI Accordion
Displays content in a collapsible accordion. Use for FAQs, expandable sections, or long multi-part content.
AWI Author
Displays author attribution or callout content in gray italics. Used on AWI Quarterly articles for bylines.
AWI Button Styles
Provides themed button options. Use instead of manually styling links as buttons.
AWI Citations
Displays footnote citations. Use for any referenced content—do not manually number footnotes. Marker goes directly after the period with no space.
AWI Adjustable Width Block
A WYSIWYG editor block with adjustable container widths. Use when standard paragraph width isn't right for the content.
AWI Background Image Overlay CTA
A full-bleed background image with title, body text, and links overlaid. Use for section-level calls to action.
AWI Full Width Content With Side Image
Full-width section with body content on one side and an image on the other. Use for feature sections on program or campaign pages.
AWI Data Table See full guide
Upload a CSV file to display as a styled, full-width responsive table. Use instead of the core Table block for any data table.

Displays a single image with one featured link. Use for highlighting a key resource or story within a page.
AWI Image with Credit
Displays an image with a photo credit field. Use instead of the core Image block whenever a photo credit is needed—this handles the formatting automatically.
AWI Links Group Repeater
A repeatable group of styled links. Use for resource lists, related content sections, or any group of navigational links.
AWI Quote Block
Styled pullquote. Use instead of the core Pullquote or Quote block to ensure consistent styling.
AWI Quote Block with Border
Pullquote with a decorative left border. Use when the quote needs more visual weight than the standard quote block.
AWI Responsive Spacer
Adds responsive spacing between blocks that adjusts at different screen sizes. Use instead of the core Spacer block.
Slider with Title
A content slider with an optional heading. Use for image galleries or multi-item featured content sections.
AWI Timeline
Displays a chronological timeline. Used on the 75th anniversary timeline page.
