- Select corresponding Campaign Term
- Select one News Term
- Click Publish.
- Proof the page and confirm it was added to the appropriate program and campaign lists.
Formatting Standards
Before publishing, review the release against this checklist. These are common formatting issues in copied press release text.
- Remove the date and location from the inline body text of the release.
- Remove spaces around em dashes-change en dashes or hyphens to em dashes where needed.
- Use hyphens for number ranges: 2-3, not 2—3. [KIM IS THIS RIGHT?]
- Remove periods from abbreviations: US not U.S. (except bill numbers: H.R. 3114).
- Change location lines from ALL CAPS to title case: New York, NY—not NEW YORK, NY.
- Ensure quotation marks are curved (“ ”) not straight (" ").
- Add Oxford commas: dogs, cats, and horses—not dogs, cats and horses.
- Remove any double spaces.
- If a URL is published as text, remove the www. prefix: awionline.org not www.awionline.org.
- For AWI page hyperlinks, use the relative path: /content/fisheries, not the full URL.
- Remove ### from the bottom of the release.
- Check for unusual line breaks or extra spacing on desktop and mobile.
- Transferring from a Word doc to WordPress will often leave Microsoft artifacts which cause spacing issues. To remove: you can copy/paste problematic text in a text editor, or you can copy/paste into the URL bar of your browser.
- After publishing, confirm all hyperlinks work.
- Note: After publishing, when you check the page, you may notice spacing issues not shown in the WordPress admin area.
